Sweet Angel Gianna fought Leukemia – she had a very “rare” form of Leukemia, Delta gamma T-cell Leukemia. She started treatment at a children’s hospital and then flew to St. Jude, where children with the toughest of cases are seen.
Because cancer is incredibly cruel, Gianna was just 8 weeks old at diagnosis… In hopes of curing the type of cancer she had, she received chemotherapy drugs that no child ever received, and those same drugs that were supposed to save her life actually killed her, which is not acceptable in any way.
She was in heart failure for a long time, spent 1 year and a half in the PICU (Intensive Care Unit), needed a tracheostomy, a small opening in the trachea in which a tube ventilates the lungs, due to her dependency on the Ventilator. In her very short life little Gianna underwent 200 bone marrow aspirations, lumbar punctures, pokes, and also an NG tube placed.
Sweet Gianna passed away on March 18th, 2016. Fly High little one, you deserve so much more than this! 💛💔👼
