On October of 2005, Pete was diagnosed with Pineoblastoma, an extremely aggressive, and fast-growing cancerous brain tumor.
Pete was 2 months away from completing 2 years old (22 months old at diagnosis). He went through 5 brain surgeries, including one to remove the tumor – about 90% of it – then he started treatment. 3 IV chemo drugs as well as another drug inserted through his Omaya port – just like a regular port in the chest, a small chamber underneath the skin of the head with a tube connected directly to his tumor bed and another oral chemo drug… This was followed by 30 days of Radiation Therapy and then 20 more weeks of chemotherapy… The treatment lasted short of an entire year!
The first scan that showed NED (no evidence of disease/no cancer) was in May of 2006.
Pete is currently 15 years old and a Freshman in High School! Even though he went through hell during cancer treatment, he is incredibly smart, thoughtful and funny. He loves basketball and his favorite team is the Golden State Warriors!
Every year he celebrates “Pete’s Special Day” – the anniversary of his diagnosis – October 14th. The worst day of their lives, but it deserves to be celebrated. After all, Pete defeated Cancer!
This year will be 14 years post-diagnosis!
Keep smiling Pete!💛💛
